Highland Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Highland Hospital, Kanawha County Schools and Suddenlink.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing September 29, 2014 through October 6, 2014 “highlights” the West Side Main Street program and the Process Strategies Testing Lab.
In 2005, three entities, the West Side Neighborhood Association, West Virginia State University, and the City of Charleston, identified a need to reinvigorate the economic sector of the West Side. Thus, West Side Main Street was born. These entities identified the Main Street model as an ideal program for fostering economic development, given the unique historic characteristics of the commercial district. A nationwide initiative used to revitalize communities, Main Street is a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation that capitalizes on a community’s history and resources to tackle the complex issues of revitalizing once-booming downtown neighborhoods.
They have their biggest fundraiser of the year on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 4-9:00 p.m. on Bigley Avenue on the West Side of Charleston. It is their annual OktoberWest event.
OktoberWest is West Side Main Street’s annual fall funfest. A ticket is all inclusive of admission, food, and drink in a beer garten setting with live music, games and fun for the kids.
Tickets are $30 before the event and $35 at the door.
