Earlier this week, I had someone at a meeting say to me “my daughter was in your hospital recently, and you helped her so much…she wouldn’t be here today without Highland”. That’s what makes me proudest. While sometimes all we can do is worry about finances, staffing, inspections, and regulations, we forget that what really matters is the care that we provide to real people in our community. The building that was invested in by our bondholders allows us to do that—but it’s our people who really care about our patients who make the real difference. As I told our new employees today in orientation, we are about putting the patient in the center of all we do, and we are about exceeding the expectations of every person who we care for. We will continue to do this, and this will be the secret to our success.
