Highland Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Highland Hospital, Kanawha County Schools and Suddenlink.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing May 18, 2015 – May 25, 2015 ‘highlights’ the West Virginia State Treasurer’s Office.
Treasurer Perdue talked about the role and responsibility of his office. WV operates a $13 billion budget. We discussed some of Treasurer Perdue’s highlights while in office the past 19 years.
We learned about the Unclaimed Properties program, the Rainy Day Fund, the Board of Treasury Investments receiving Standard and Poor’s AAAm, the highest rating available for a money market fund, and the Smart 529 College Savings Plan.
Ms. Joynes informed us of the 5.29K Run/Walk being organized by Treasurer’s Office. The event is scheduled for May 30, 2015 with registration at 7:30 a.m. and the race at 8:30 a.m. at 1116 Smith Street near Capitol Market. The 5.29K Run/Walk will benefit Mission WV, an adoption program helping children in the foster care system. National statistics show less than 3 percent of kids who grow up in the foster care system go on to obtain a college degree. When a foster child is adopted into a loving family, his/her fresh start can also include a brighter future through higher education.
There will be an Ice Cream Social and packet pick-up on Friday May 29th from 4-6:00 p.m. at the Capitol Market on Smith Street.
Or call 304-341-0720 to register.
