Highland Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Highland Hospital, Kanawha County Schools and Suddenlink Communications.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
The show airing November 9, 2015 – November 16, 2015 ‘highlights’ the Highland Hospital Foundation and their upcoming gala & PRO-Kids, Inc.
We interviewed Gail Carter, Development Director, Highland Hospital Foundation and Bob Lagg, General Manager, Mardi Gras Casino & Resort about the upcoming 4th Annual Gala to benefit Highland Hospital.
Gail talked about the mission of the Highland Foundation which is to enable and assist Highland companies in maintaining quality behavioral health treatment programs. The Highland Hospital Foundation is the 501 (c) 3 fundraising organization of HHA, Inc., a West Virginia behavioral health company known for its psychiatric services. As the philanthropic arm of HHA, Inc., the Highland Foundation supports the delivery of behavioral health services to patients of all ages and contributes to the overall quality of life in our community by providing financial assistance.
Mardi Gras Casino & Resort is the premier sponsor of this years gala. Bob Lagg, their General Manager explained why they are so passionate about partnering with Highland on this event. Mr. Lagg talked about the need in our community for behavioral health services and wants Mardi Gras to be a part of the solution in helping folks get the treatment and care they deserve.
The gala is set for November 21, 2015 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Embassy Suites in Charleston WV.
The theme this year is ‘Swanky Sixties’.

We also interviewed Sharon Iskra, Board Member from PRO-Kids, Inc. PRO-Kids, Inc. (“Project Reach Out to Kids”) is an afterschool tutoring and enrichment program which serves students from Charleston’s East End. They are a 501(c)(3) corporation conveniently housed one block from the school within Charleston Baptist Temple, 209 Morris Street, Charleston, WV.
They are currently serving 45 children ages 5-12 years old enrolled, with 9 more on a growing waiting list for entry.
Sharon, who also serves as the Fundraising Chairperson for PRO-Kids, talked about their upcoming benefit event, called In Our Shoes. It is scheduled for November 19, 2015 at Aladdin Restaurant on Chesterfield Avenue from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. Sponsorships are available and individual tickets are only $35.
