We interviewed Sarah Bolyard, Executive Director and Ashley Fisher, Director of Heart Walk, American Heart Association.
Their annual Heart Walk is scheduled for September 10, 2016 at the WV State Capitol Complex beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Sarah talked about the mission and purpose of AHA. Their mission is to build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke. That single purpose drives all that they do.
She talked about their programs with schools, hospitals, companies, and the community.
Ashley talked about their upcoming Heart Walk. This is the American Heart Association’s premiere event that brings communities together to raise funds and celebrate progress in the fight against this country’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers – heart disease and stroke.
This inspirational day is filled with energy, excitement and hope! Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the Heart Walk creates an environment that’s fun and rewarding for the entire family.

We also interviewed Jennifer Waggoner, Executive Director, Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley.
She talked about their values and their vision at Faith in Action. It is to value the dignity and worth of every person. They are committed to inclusive care and service. They respect the diversity of gifts that each person brings to our shared ministry and recognize the unique worth of all volunteers. They understand that there is an interdependence and reciprocity in caregiving. And they believe that spirituality is a resource for health.
Their vision of the shared ministry of Faith in Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley is to enhance the dignity and quality of life for all people in our community.
She was excited to talk about their upcoming fundraiser called ‘Pedal with Purpose’.
Pedal with Purpose, presented by Zenergy Cycling, is set for Saturday, September 17, 2016 at Zenergy beginning at 9:00 a.m.
This stationary bike “race” is very similar to the walks and runs you may have participated in before, with a significant difference: everyone stays in one place!
People of all ages and skill levels, from beginner to pro, can join in this fun, high energy event and raise funds to support the work of Faith in Action. Volunteers assist seniors in our community who want to stay in their own homes but need a helping hand now and then. By providing FREE transportation to medical appointments or the grocery store, paying friendly visits, making weekly reassurance phone calls, or deploying a Honey Do Crew to perform minor home maintenance projects, Faith In Action of the Greater Kanawha Valley impacts the quality of life of the seniors we serve in Kanawha and Putnam counties, every single day.
