Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Highland Hospital, Kanawha County Schools and Suddenlink Communications.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
We interviewed Frank Fazzolari, Executive Director, The Counseling Connection and Amanda Barren, Committee Member about the upcoming Capital City Challenge.
Frank talked about the mission and many programs at The Counseling Connection. The mission of The Counseling Connection is to nurture the mental health and psychological well being of individuals and families by providing the highest quality counseling, therapy, education and advocacy available throughout West Virginia. Their REACH program is dedicated to providing professional, compassionate care to survivors of sexual violence and to working toward creating a community in which sexual violence is no longer tolerated.
Amanda discussed with excitement how and why to participate in the Capital City Challenge, otherwise known as the Run Row Ride event. The race consists of a 4.2 mile run, a 4.2 mile row, and a 16.8 mile bike ride all along the banks of the Kanawha River. This is the seventh year for this race. Individuals and groups of two or three are all encouraged to participate. Amanda is challenging herself by do the entire triathlon. She discussed with proud the sense of accomplishment to finish a race of this magnitude. And of course it is for a great cause.
The event takes place at Magic Island in Charleston, WV on Saturday, September 17, 2016 beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Frank mentioned a new race within the event; a 13K race. And there is even a Hero Run for the children. This is being supported by our policeman, fireman and first responders. So something for everyone.

We also interview Aila Accad, Executive Director, Future of Nursing West Virginia.
She talked about the purpose of Future of Nursing WV and why her organization is so important. All West Virginian’s have access to quality health care where nurses lead change to advance health. The Future of Nursing WV believes that in order to advance this vision, nursing; the largest sector of the healthcare workforce must be improved. The nursing profession can and will play a significant role in advancing the health of West Virginians. Their project teams, strategic advisors, members and funders all work together toward the goal of creating a culture of health for West Virginia through advancing nursing practice, education and leadership.
Aila talked about their upcoming Recognition and Awards Gala, August 27, 2016 beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the ballroom at the University of Charleston.
