Charleston, WV — Today, Charleston’s Seafood Nutrition Partnership (SNP) coalition announced 22 Charleston area restaurants will participate in the second annual Charleston Seafood Week starting on Monday, October 10, 2016 and continuing through Sunday, October 16, 2016. Charleston Seafood Week is one of the highlights of SNP’s public health education campaign in the city during October’s National Seafood Month.
During Charleston’s Seafood Week participating restaurants will offer customers a variety of seafood specials in order to encourage Kanawha Valley residents and West Virginians to improve their heart health by eating seafood at least twice a week, as recommended by the USDA Dietary Guidelines. Only 10 percent of Americans currently follow the recommendation.
Participating local restaurants include:
Adelphia Sports Bar & Grill
Berry Hills Country Club
Brick Salt + Kitchen
Bricks & Barrels
Bridge Road Bistro
BRB Café (at Columbia Gas)
Ichiban Pan-Asian Restaurant
Mi Cocina De Amor
Sam’s Uptown Café
South Hills Market & Café
Starlings Coffee & Provisions
The Block Restaurant & Wine Cellar
Timothy’s Bar & Grill
“Residents of the Kanawha Valley and visitors should try the seafood specials October 10-16 at Charleston’s finest restaurants,” said Alisa Bailey, CEO of the Charleston Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Seafood nutrition is good for business and seafood is proven to be good for your heart health.”
During National Seafood Month, SNP Charleston will partner with community and business leaders to host and participate in educational events to educate residents about the health and nutritional benefits of seafood and how eating it two times per week can help your heart health. SNP is also encouraging all West Virginians to take the Healthy Heart Pledge as a commitment to eat more seafood. The Healthy Heart Pledge can be taken online at www.snpCharleston.com.
