Highlights is a 30 minute weekly TV show featuring organizations, events, grass-roots efforts and people who move our state and community forward in a positive way.
The show is a collaboration with Highland Hospital, Kanawha County Schools and Suddenlink Communications.
The show airs daily at 8:30 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Suddenlink’s channel 17.
We interviewed Selina Midkiff, Founding Director, of the Appalachian Children’s Chorus (ACC). She gave us an overview the ACC.
ACC is a special learning environment designed to provide a rich and rewarding musical experience for each child. The children study and perform a variety of music from simple unison folk songs to more challenging classical and multi-cultural repertoire.
There are currently 6 ACC choirs around the state of WV.
Their upcoming Christmas Concert is scheduled for December 4, 2016 beginning at 3:00 in the Clay Center for the Arts & Sciences. The concert is titled ‘Feel the Love of Christmas’ in honor of BE Taylor, who passed away earlier this year.
The concert also features the Martin Luther King Jr. Male Chorus.
Tickets are only $18. Call the Clay Center at 304-561-3570 or the ACC office at 304-343-1111.
We also talked with Jessie Shafer, Development Director, Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association.
She announced their exciting news of receiving a $240,000 grant from Petco Foundation. The grant will be used to purchase ‘CareAVan’ which is a mobile clinic. This mobile clinic will offer adoption and vet services to necessary communities throughout the Kanawha Valley.
She also mentioned that Tuesday, November 29, 2016 is #GivingTuesday. She suggested that you support the animal shelter with your giving.
