Bound for Success Program
Highland Hospital opened a Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) in February of 2016. The program is called Bound for Success.
The Bound for Success Program is a PRTF located in the former hospital facility at 300 56th Street, Charleston, WV. At the Bound for Success Program, children and adolescents between the ages of 4 – 14 are treated for trauma related disorders.
Bound for Success is a 24-bed facility with 2 separate units: a 12-bed unit for children ages 4-9 and a 12-bed unit for children ages 10-14.
Bound for Success is a 6-9 month trauma-based program. Program staff use Dialectic Behavioral Therapy Training Skills (DBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TFCBT) and Behavioral Modification (BM) to assist with treating the residents. The program strives to ensure the residents have a safe and supportive environment in which to receive treatment.
Families are provided DBT training and other parenting services to ensure continuity of care after discharge.
Academic/educational programming is provided 4 hours per day by certified teachers. Families are encouraged to be active participants in the treatment process of their children. There is a monthly Family Day which encourages ALL family members to visit the program, spend the day and learn more about the treatment process.
For admission, children must demonstrate the ability to positively respond to treatment services. An IQ of at least 70 is required.
This program is for children with severe functional impairment due to psychiatric diagnosis in three or more major life domains such as; school performance, family relationships, interpersonal relationships, communication skills, thought processes, self care, and community.
The program does not accept children with ADD/Conduct/ODD as the only diagnosis.
Children with a primary diagnosis of PTSD/RAD/Bipolar/MDD are typically considered for the program. If the diagnosis is RAD or PTSD, there needs to be a specifier of the trauma such as; physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect.
Insurances that are currently accepted include: Coventry, traditional Medicaid, Beacon, and The Health Plan.
The Bound for Success Program believes that every child has a long and prosperous life ahead of them. We encourage every resident to set goals for their future, establish hope & optimism, and challenge them to dream big.
